What is fiberglass ?

2024-01-27

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), also known as fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), generally refers to reinforced plastics made of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin, and phenolic resin matrix, with glass fiber or its products as reinforcing materials. It is called fiberglass reinforced plastic, or fiberglass reinforced plastic, which is different from tempered glass.

Due to the different types of resins used, there are different types of polyester fiberglass, epoxy fiberglass, and phenolic fiberglass. Lightweight and hard, non-conductive, stable performance, high mechanical strength, minimal recycling, and corrosion resistance. It can replace steel in manufacturing machine parts, as well as automotive and ship casings.

Fiberglass reinforced plastic, commonly known as FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastics), is a type of fiber-reinforced composite plastic. According to the different fibers used, it can be divided into glass fiber reinforced composite plastics (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced composite plastics (CFRP), boron fiber reinforced composite plastics, etc. It is a composite material that uses glass fiber and its products (glass cloth, tape, felt, yarn, etc.) as reinforcing materials and synthetic resin as the matrix material. Fiber reinforced composite materials are composed of reinforced fibers and a matrix. The diameter of fibers (or whiskers) is very small, usually around 10 μ Below m, there are fewer and smaller defects, and the fracture strain is about 30% or less. It is a brittle material that is prone to damage, fracture, and corrosion. Compared to fibers, the strength and modulus of the matrix are much lower, but it can withstand large strains and often has viscoelasticity and elastoplasticity, making it a tough material.
